Have a special occasion in mind and want a unique setting to hold it? Perhaps a wedding, a staff Christmas party, club get-together or meet the neighbours? And you might want some activity thrown in as an ice-breaker or to appeal to the competitive types who don't want to just stand round, chit-chatting? Perhaps a business meeting out of the office environs? Then why not investigate the clubhouse and grounds of the North Shore Croquet Club in Devonport? We are proud of our lovely heritage building set alongside the superbly maintained croquet lawns.
The clubhouse has seating for around 40 people and standing room for 60-80. And the covered deck can cater for spill-over. There is a fully functioning kitchen with stove, warmer, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, some cutlery, crockery including glassware but you might want to supplement this with drink-appropriate glasses.
We have a CD player and all we ask is that you don't play your music overly loudly as we like to keep on good terms with our neighbours. And, as part of fulfilling our role of good neighbour, the premises need to be vacated by 11 pm. On a glorious summer's evening there's nothing nicer than a BBQ and we can supply that. All you need to do is ensure the gas bottle is refilled after use. Combine this with some croquet on the lawns and you'll be recommending us to all your friends!
We are able to organise competitive team tournaments even for those new to croquet, and can cater for an absolute maximum of 48 players on the lawns at any one time, although 32 is far more manageable; we provide mallets for your use and some basic coaching in golf croquet, all you need to do is wear flat-soled shoes and keep your sense of fun. You need two hands to swing the mallet so clutching the champagne glass - or tea cup - when it's your turn isn't possible! No drinks on the lawns, but they may be left in the shelters beside the lawns.
